Shamrock Sun Catcher

My Big Guy and I are getting ready for our St. Patrick's Day crafting party.  We've been exploring different crafting ideas focused on the Irish theme.  We came up with Shamrock sun catchers.  We chose 3 leaf shamrocks instead of the 4 leaf clover because St. Patrick used the 3 leaf shamrock to help explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish.  We LOVE this finished product!

This is what we did:

1. Draw a shamrock in the center of green construction paper.
2. Place another sheet of green construction paper behind it and cut out your drawing.  You're going to use the silhouette not the shamrock so you don't need to worry how well you cut out the center.
3. Add glue around the outline of the shamrock and place a piece of wax paper covering the entire page.
4. Add crayon shavings all over the wax paper.  We used a variety of tools to shave the crayons:  pencil sharpener, butter knife, and a carrot grater.
5. Glue another piece of wax paper over the top.
6. Place a hand towel over AND UNDER your entire project.
7. Use a HOT iron and go over the entire page - melting the crayon wax.  (crayon wax came off onto my towel - I'm glad I used an old one that I didn't care about!)
8. Glue the second green piece of construction paper over the design matching it up with the other one.
9. Cut the outside so that you have a green shamrock border.
10. Add your bling (we used sequins) and hang it in the window.

Aren't they beautiful?  We LOVE them!  It took us about 20 minutes to make one of them.  My Big Guy needed a lot of help with this project but that's OK because we got to spend a lot of time together while Little Guy napped.  He didn't ask for the TV once!  yeah!
